BmoreArt Organizes Beyond the Frame: A Marathon Studio Tour of Baltimore Artist Studios with Christopher Bedford, Mera Rubell and Cara Ober

Hundreds of Baltimore artists are applying to BmoreArt for the coveted opportunity of a studio visit with Christopher Bedford, Director of the Baltimore Museum of Art and commissioner for the United States Pavilion for the 2017 Venice Biennale, and Mera Rubell,an internationally respected art collector and co-founder of the Rubell Family Collection,a museum located in Miami,FL.Cara Ober,Founding Editor-in-Chief at BmoreArt is coordinating "Beyond the Frame," the studio tour which will include visits to more than thirty Baltimore artists on February 28th and March 1st.

"Beyond the Frame" reflects Bedford's own interest in artists who explore social and political issues in their work and whose work interacts with culture to challenge cultural norms and reflecting contemporary practices and trends. The idea for the studio tour was suggested by Mera Rubell, after conducting similar studio tours on behalf of the Washington Project for the Arts.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce Chris and Mera to the richness and diversity that Baltimore's art community presents," said Ober, who will select the twenty artists with help from 金博宝网址BmoreArt's team and Rubell."We are also excited to create a professional studio experience for artists with world caliber curators and collectors."

"I love visiting artist studios," said Rubell."Artists have so much to teach us and we need to hear what they have to say.The best art offers something personal and also universal, ideas that our relevant to our lives and show us who we are as people."

Each studio visit will be informal and selected artists will be given professional development support from Ober, who has taught a PD class at MICA for the past decade, before the visit in order to create productive experiences and conversations.

"Our goal is to build relationships," said Ober."Visiting an artist's studio is an incredibly intimate and special experience." When asked to coordinate the tour,Ober immediately agreed because it's a rare experience for Baltimore artists to receive studio visits from representatives of national museums.
